What we collect and why
When you contact us
Our contact form asks for your name, your email address and your message. We use this only to read and reply to your enquiry. We do not use it for marketing, and we do not sell it or pass it to anyone for their own purposes.
Our lawful basis is legitimate interests: you have asked us a question and we need your details to answer it.
When you browse the site
We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used, such as which pages are visited and roughly where visitors come from. This is reported to us in aggregate. Google sets cookies in your browser to do this and processes the data on our behalf as well as for its own purposes. You can read Google’s privacy policy for how it handles that information.
Our web server and our content delivery provider also keep standard technical logs, including IP addresses, for security and to keep the site running. These are kept for a short period and are not used to identify individuals.
Cookies
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. This site uses two kinds:
- Necessary cookies that make the site work, for example keeping a session or remembering that you have submitted a form.
- Analytics cookies set by Google Analytics, as described above.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking analytics cookies will not stop the site working. You can also install Google’s opt-out browser add-on to stop Google Analytics collecting data about you on any site.
Who we share it with
We do not sell personal information. We use a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf:
- Our hosting provider, which stores the website and its database
- Cloudflare, which delivers and protects the site
- Google, for website analytics and performance reporting
We may also disclose information where we are required to by law.
How long we keep it
Enquiries sent through the contact form are kept for up to 24 months, so we can refer back to a conversation and follow it up. After that we delete them. We review this periodically and remove anything we no longer have a reason to hold.
Analytics data is retained by Google under its own retention settings. Server logs are kept for a short period for security purposes.
Where your data is held
Our website and its database are hosted in the United Kingdom. Some of our service providers, including Google and Cloudflare, operate internationally and may process data outside the UK. Where they do, they rely on safeguards approved for UK transfers, such as the UK addendum to the standard contractual clauses.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- ask what personal information we hold about you and get a copy of it
- ask us to correct information that is wrong
- ask us to delete information we no longer need
- object to our processing, or ask us to restrict it
- ask us to transfer information you gave us to someone else
To use any of these rights, contact us through the contact form. We will respond within one month. There is no charge.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK regulator for data protection.
